The first indication that the show was willing to take chances came early on when a character named Sheridan Crane was presented not only as a close girlfriend of Princess Diana but as the survivor of a car crash that occurred in the same Parisian tunnel where Diana and Dodi Fayed were killed. The outrageousness of the show - for example, a talking doll named Timmy recently assisted his vicious "princess," Tabitha, in her efforts to drown good-girl Charity in a cauldron - appeals to a younger generation that is both uninhibited and bored silly by everyday life. ![]() The show's fictitious town of Harmony, complete with ornate dwellings as well as an array of mystical and freakish characters, is a post-Harry Potter fairy tale for '90s teens. If `Passions' is perceived in some sense to be innovative, then kids could take to it like a moth to a light - they could make it their own, Internet it to death, and make it very popular." "Of course, it would also be marvelous for the show. "If teens could find a television serial that epitomizes their generation, that would be marvelous for them because every generation searches for something which is idiosyncratic of their era," offers Stuart Fischoff, professor of media psychology at California State University at Los Angeles.
